West Ham United
West Ham United won their famous claret and blue shirts in a wager with players and staff from Aston Villa. Back in 1899 Bill Dove, a sprinter who coached Ironworks team (later to reform as West Ham United) was challenged to a race by four Aston Villa players, Dove won the race and a set of Villa shirts was accepted in lieu of cash for the wager. Over the years those claret and blue shirts have been worn by a string of great players including: Trevor Brooking, Geoff Hurst and England legend Booby Moore. In putting on the number 6 shirt, he replaced his mentor Malcolm Allison, Allison never played another first team game for West Ham as Moore became a regular. Moore played 544 games for West Ham and was West Ham Captain for over a decade.
