In the early years Stoke played in a variety of different shirt styles including blue & black stripes, yellow & black stripes and cherry colour shirts. It wasn’t until 1908 that the familiar red & white stripes became the first choice home shirt. Stoke born and bred Stanley returned to the Club in 1961 at the tender age of 46 to play for a further 4 seasons before retiring at the age of 50 that he claimed was too early!
