In the early years Stoke played in a variety of different shirt styles including blue & black stripes, yellow & black stripes and cherry colour shirts. It wasn’t until 1908 that the familiar red & white stripes became the first choice home shirt. Since then many famous players have worn the Stoke shirt, including Stan Matthew and the legendary England keeper Gordon Banks, you can see both these players Stoke retro shirts below.

Stoke born and bred Stanley returned to the Club in 1961 at the tender age of 46 to play for a further 4 seasons before retiring at the age of 50 that he claimed was too early!
