The famous scarlet and blue striped shirt worn by Barca players has remained unchanged for the last 100 years. The club is widely known as the ‘Blaugrana’ in reference to the names of these colours in the Catalan language.

The origins of the shirt design still remain some what of a mystery, it is possible that the colours for the shirt were taken from Crosby’s Merchant Taylor’s School in Merseyside. One of Barcelona’s first players was Englishman Arthur Witty who had been a pupil at the school which used the colours for it’s sports teams.
